On 16th October 2019, Chaki foundation team visited the Joseph Kangethe Primary School in Kibra, Nairobi and donated water and sanitary towels to girls. The School, with a population of over 4000 children has not had water since the beginning of the year and these had forced the administration to suspend the School feeding program due to lack of proper sanitation and health concerns. Children and orphans from poor background had therefore stopped going to school due to hunger issues and others had been reported sneaking out of the compound during lesson hours and stealing from nearby kiosks and fruit vendors. The head teacher had therefore reached us with concerns about the future of the children. Seeing 20,000 litres of water delivered today was unbelievable to both the children and the administration team. Words could not thank us enough. Lunch and porridge will be served as from tomorrow and these will give all the children an equal learning opportunity regardless of their background. It had been impossible to learn and concentrate on an empty stomach.
The School is also composed of a special unit of physically challenged children who are not able to express themselves even when faced with difficulties. We have put such children into consideration especially the girls and therefore donated 200 packets of sanitary towels for classes 7 and 8. We thank our donors who have kindly donated them to us. Thank you so much UNICEF for your pledge of more sanitary towels.
